Psalm 23

The LORD is my shepherd, I shall not be in want.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He restores my soul.
He guides me in paths of righteousness for His Name's sake.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for You are with me;
Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 139

O LORD, you have searched me and You know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise;
You perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
You are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue,
You know it completely, O LORD.
You hem me in – behind and before;
You have laid Your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,
too lofty for me to attain.
Where can I from Your Spirit?
Where can I flee from Your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, You are there;
if I make my bed in the depths, You are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn,
if I settle on the far side of the sea,
even there Your hand will guide me,
Your right hand will hold me fast.
If I say, "Surely the darkness will hide me
and the light become night around me,"
even the darkness will not be dark to you;
the night will shine like the day,
for darkness is as light to You.
For You created my inmost being;
You knit me together in my mother's womb.
I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
My frame was not hidden from you
when I was made in the secret place.
When I was woven together in the depths of the earth,
Your eyes saw my unformed body.
All the days ordained for me were written in Your book
before one of them came to be.
How precious to me are Your thoughts, O God!
How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them,
they would outnumber the grains of sand.
When I awake, I am still with You.
If only You would slay the wicked, O God!
Away from me, you bloodthirsty men!
They speak of You with evil intent;
Your adversaries misuse Your Name.
Do I not hate those who hate You, O LORD,
and abhor those who rise up against You?
I have nothing but hatred for them;
I count them my enemies.
Search me, O God, and know my heart;
test me and know my anxious thoughts.
See if there is any offensive way in me,
and lead me in the way everlasting.

The Prayer of Jabez

Jabez cried out to the God of Israel,
"Oh, that You would bless me and enlarge my territory!
Let Your hand be with me, and keep me from harm
so that I will be free from pain."
And God granted his request.

1 Chronicles 4:10

Jonah's Prayer

From inside the fish Jonah prayed to the LORD his God.
He said:
"In my distress I called to the LORD,
And He answered me.
From the depths of the grave I called for help,
And You listened to my cry.
You hurled me into the deep,
Into the very heart of the seas,
And the currents swirled about me;
All Your waves and breakers swept over me.
I said, 'I have been banished from Your sight;
Yet I will look again toward Your holy temple.'
The engulfing waters threatened me,
The deep surrounded me;
Seaweed was wrapped around my head.
To the roots of the mountains I sank down;
The earth beneath barred me in forever.
But You brought my life up from the pit, O LORD my God.
When my life was ebbing away,
I remembered you, LORD,
And my prayer rose to You,
To Your holy temple.
Those who cling to worthless idols
forfeit the grace that could have been theirs.
But I, with a song of thanksgiving,
Will sacrifice to You.
What I have vowed I will make good.
Salvation comes from the LORD."
And the LORD commanded the fish, and it vomited Jonah onto dry land.

Jonah 2:1-10

Solomon's Prayer

May Your eyes be open toward this temple day and night,
this place of which You said You would put Your Name there.
May You hear the prayer Your servant prays toward this place.
Hear the supplications of Your servant and of Your people Israel
when they pray toward this place.
Hear from heaven, Your dwelling place, and when You hear,
forgive.

2 Chronicles 6:20,21

The LORD Answers Solomon

If My people, who are called by My Name,
will humble themselves and pray and seek My face
and turn from their wrong ways,
then will I hear from heaven and will forgive their sin
and will heal their land.
Now My eyes will be open and my ears attentive
to the prayers offered in this place.
I have chosen and consecrated this temple
so that My Name may be there forever.
My eyes and my heart will always be there.

2 Chronicles 7:14-16

The Prayer of Jehoshaphat

Some men came and told Jehoshaphat,
"A vast army is coming against you from the other side of the sea …"
Alarmed, Jehoshaphat resolved to inquire of the LORD,
And he proclaimed a fast for all Judah.

The people of Judah came together to seek help from the LORD;
Indeed, they came from every town in Judah to seek Him.
Then Jehoshaphat stood up in the assembly of Judah and Jerusalem at
the temple of the LORD in the front of the new courtyard and said:

"O LORD, God of our fathers, are You not the God Who is in heaven?
You rule over all the kingdoms of the nations.
Power and might are in Your hand, and no one can withstand You.
O our God, did You not drive out the inhabitants of this land
Before Your people Israel and give it forever to the descendents
Of Abraham Your friend? They have lived in it and have built in it a
Sanctuary for Your Name, saying, 'If calamity comes upon us,
Whether the sword of judgment, or plague or famine,
We will stand in Your presence before this temple
That bears Your Name and will cry out to You in our distress,
And you will hear us and save us.'
But now here are men from Ammon, Moab and Mount Seir,
Whose territory You would not allow Israel to invade
When they came from Egypt, so they turned away from them
And did not destroy them. See how they are repaying us
By coming to drive us out of the possession
You gave us as an inheritance.
O our God, will You not judge them?
For we have no power to face this vast army that is attacking us.
We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You."

All the men of Judah, with their wives and children and little ones,
Stood there before the LORD.

The LORD Answers Jehoshaphat

Then the Spirit of the LORD came up Jahaziel … a descendant of Asaph
… and he said:

"Listen, King Jehoshaphat and all who live in Judah and Jerusalem!
This is what the LORD says to you: 'Do not be afraid or discouraged
because of this vast army. For the battle is not yours, but God's …
You will not have to fight this battle. Take up your positions;
Stand firm and see the deliverance the LORD will give you,
O Judah and Jerusalem. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged.
Go out to face them tomorrow, and the LORD will be with you."

As they began to sing and praise, the LORD set ambushes against the
men of Ammon and Moab and Mount Seir who were invading Judah,
and they were defeated.

2 Chronicles 20:2-17 and 22

Daniel's Prayer

Now, our God, hear the prayers and petitions of your servant.
For Your sake, O Lord, look with favor on Your desolate sanctuary.
Give ear, O God, and hear; open Your eyes and see the desolation of
the city that bears Your Name. We do not make requests of You
because we are righteous, but because of Your great mercy.
O Lord, listen! O Lord, forgive! O Lord, hear and act!
For Your sake, O my God, do not delay, because Your city and
Your people bear Your Name."

Daniel 9:17-19

The LORD Answers Daniel

While I was speaking and praying, confessing my sin and the sin of my
people Israel and making my request to the LORD my God for His holy
hill – while I was still in prayer, Gabriel, the man I had seen in the earlier
vision, came to me in swift flight about the time of the evening
sacrifice. He instructed me and said to me, "Daniel, I have now
come to give you insight and understanding. As soon as you began to
pray, an answer was given, which I have come to tell you, for you are
highly esteemed."

Then he continued, "Do not be afraid, Daniel. Since the first day that
you set your mind to gain understanding and to humble yourself before
your God, your words were heard, and I have come in response to
them."

Daniel 9:20-23 and 10:12

The Lord's Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
Holy is Your Name.
Your kingdom come, Your will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread,
and forgive us our sins,
as we also forgive those who sin against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For Yours is the kingdom, and the power and glory forever.

The Prayer of Jesus

After Jesus said this, He looked toward heaven and prayed:

For Himself …

"Father, the time has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son may glorify You. For You granted Him authority over all people that He might give eternal life to all those You have given Him. Now this is eternal life: that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom You have sent. I have brought You glory on earth by completing the work You gave Me to do. And now, Father, glorify Me in Your presence with the glory I had with You before the world began.

For His Disciples …

I have revealed You to those whom You gave Me out of the world. They were Yours; You gave them to Me and they have obeyed Your word. Now they know that everything You have given Me comes from You. For I gave them the words You gave Me and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me. I pray for them. I am not praying for the world, but for those You have given Me, for they are Yours. All I have is Yours, and all You have is mine. And glory has come to Me through them. I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world, and I am coming to You. Holy Father, protect them by the power of Your Name – the Name You gave Me – so that they may be one as we are one. While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by that Name you gave Me. None has been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.

I am coming to You now, but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of My joy within them. I have given them Your word and the world has hated them, for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world. My prayer is not that You take them out of the world but that You protect them from the evil one. They are not of the world, even as I am not of it. Sanctify them by the truth; Your word is truth. As You sent Me into the world, I have sent them into the world. For them I sanctify Myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.

For All Believers …

My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in Me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as You are in Me and I am in You. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that You have sent Me. I have given them the glory that You gave Me, that they may be one as we are one: I in them and You in Me. May they be brought to complete unity to let the world know that You sent Me and have loved them even as You have loved Me.

Father, I want those You have given Me to be with Me where I am, and to see My glory, the glory You have given Me because You loved Me before the creation of the world. Righteous Father, though the world does not know You, I know You, and they know that You have sent Me. I have made You known to them, and will continue to make You known in order that the love You have for Me may be in them and that I Myself may be in them."

John 17:1-26

The Prayer of the Apostles

On their release, Peter and John went back to their own people and reported all that the chief priests and elders had said to them. When they heard this, they raised their voices together in prayer to God. "Sovereign Lord," they said, "You made the heaven and the earth and the sea, and everything in them. You spoke by the Holy Spirit through the mouth of Your servant, our father David: 'Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the Lord and against His Anointed One.' Indeed Herod and Pontius Pilate met together with the Gentiles and the people of Israel in this city to conspire against Your holy servant Jesus, whom You anointed. They did what Your power and will had decided beforehand should happen. Now, Lord, consider their threats and enable Your servants to speak Your Word with great boldness. Stretch our Your hand to heal and perform miraculous signs and wonders through the Name of Your holy servant Jesus."
After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly.

Acts 4:23-31
