Bible Study

Every time we make the effort to study and learn what is in the Bible, something pops out, even if we've already heard it before.

"The Spirit gives life; the flesh counts for nothing. The words I have spoken to you are spirit and they are life." John 6:63

This is because it is the living and active Word of God. All Scripture is God-breathed. Through His Word, God breathes His life into us, penetrating our deepest being. Just like food and water are vital to our physical bodies, God's Word sustains our new life in Christ, His Body, and renews our minds day by day.

This Week's Bible Study

December 29, 2010

Pastor David taught us about the importance of getting wisdom. Our study was from the Book of Proverbs.

"My son, if you accept my words and store up my commands within you, turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding, and if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding, and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden treasure, then you will understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD gives wisdom, and from His mouth come knowledge and understanding. He holds victory in store for the upright, He is a shield to those whose walk is blameless, for He guards the course of the just and protects the way of His faithful ones. Then you will understand what is right and just and fair – every good path. For wisdom will enter your heart, and knowledge will be pleasant to your soul. Discretion will protect you, and understanding will guard you."

Proverbs 2:1-11

Wisdom comes only from God. It belongs to Him. It is His to give. Fearing (reverencing) God is the beginning. Then, as you begin to pay attention to God's Word – not merely read or passively listen, but pay careful and steady attention to it – then the Bible says that "wisdom will enter your heart." The value of wisdom cannot even be measured; so great is its worth. Wisdom shields, guards, protects, and guides. When the Book of Proverbs was written, Jesus has not yet come. But now we have been given the Holy Spirit, who guides us into all truth and has come to live within the hearts of all who believe on the Name of Jesus Christ – and He generously gives wisdom and understanding, without finding fault, to all who ask Him (James 1:5).
